Architectural aspects of the use de DCS in existing buildings
(retrofitting):
Most of the
earlier twenty-century concrete frame buildings are far away from the
contemporary demands both in aesthetical, technical, comfort and energy
saving points of view. In order to continue their live cycle, they need to
be upgrade.
The growing
demand for technological ability’s of the buildings, both for office or
housing use, requires a large amount of cabling, shaft… , combine with the
need to new aesthetics, with great energy saving, improving the overall
quality of the the space (lighting and temperature control, air
circulation,..), creates an opportunity and a market to answer (with one
single operation) to all this demands.
It will be of
great interest to combine in the some process the ability to upgrade
existing buildings in the mentioned items – seismic resistance capacity,
temperature and humidity and lighting control
and the technological ability’s to support communications.
Architectural aspects of the use de DCS in new buildings:
The most
important aspect of the use of the DCS in new constructions is the ability
of separating the main structural frame from the seismic resistance
capacity, allowing more elegant forms.
In the
contemporary construction most office and housing buildings are using
ventilated facade system that coop very well with the DCS.
Detailing
solutions for the DCS architectural integration:
·
Double plan brick walls
·
Exterior panel glazing: ventilated facade
·
Interior light partition

Description
of the building:
A typical
middle twenty-century housing Building in Algés-Lisbon (Portugal).
3 stories
building with a concrete frame structure without shear walls and a single
plan masonry 200mm large bricks exterior walls.
Very modest and
unqualified image, poor energy efficiency, low temperature comfort, and
difficulty of integration of modern technological equipment – cabling, are
conditioning, communications,…
As the attached
images describes we proposed the creation of a second facade that restyles
the aesthetics of the building, creating a space in between the new and the
old facade in witch is possible to include the DCS, communications
electrical cabling network and the temperature and acoustics proof material.
we consider
several possibilities of glazing material: metal, hood or glass panel.
